When designing your bathroom, you will want all of your fixtures to be economical, stylish, functional and flexible, and this includes your shower. However, finding your perfect shower can be tricky, but the following information about the pros and cons of each available model should help.

Mixers

With mixer shower arrangements, hot and cold water is mixed together before reaching the outlet, and the water temperature can be adjusted using a mixer bath tap. They are most suitable for use over the bath. There are numerous mixers available:

  • Push-on
  • Bath/shower
  • Manual
  • Thermostatic

Pros: Most mixers are usually cheap and simple to install, and can be an excellent space saving option in the bathroom.

Cons: The hose connections are not always very secure, and adjusting the water temperature can sometimes be tricky.

Electric Showers

These source water from an electrically heated wall unit plumbed into the mains water supply.

Pros: Electric showers will save you money, as the water is heated quickly using electricity instead of being slowly heated and maintained by your water heater. Also, you will be able to take a hot shower any time you like.

Power Showers

A power shower contains a powerful electric pump to alter the water pressure and temperature, and is usually contained in a single unit.

Pros: The adjustability of the shower spray means that you can have a gentle, relaxing shower or a forceful, invigorating one.

Cons: A normal shower screen or curtain will not contain the water, so you will need to install a separate cubicle or wet room to protect your porcelain tiles.
