It's not every day that you wake up to find that your garden path has disappeared! However, this is exactly what happened to a couple from Lancashire.
Mick Tempest and his partner Claire Inman had the shock of their lives when they opened their curtains one morning to find that their garden paving had vanished overnight. Seven paving slabs had been taken from their garden- leaving seven empty, muddy holes.
The York stone paving slabs, which were part of the garden when the couple moved in, had fallen prey to thieves during the night.
Mr Tempest, who was incredibly baffled by the bizarre incident, said: "When I opened the bedroom curtains and looked out I couldn't believe my eyes. Those slabs have been there as long as I have been there, for about 10 years now.
"How did someone (or rather at least two people, because those slabs are heavy) manage to steal them without anyone hearing?"
York stone paving can be very expensive, so it's highly likely that the culprits will attempt to sell them on.
