You may have noticed that's it's been rather cold this winter, with the UK being covered by a blanket of snow. It is at this time of year, more than any other, that you need to consider keeping your house warm and cosy using insulation.

Thermal insulation products act as a barrier between areas in your home that are significantly different in temperature, and can subsequently reduce heat loss or gain. This means it can keep your home warm and snug in winter, and stop it from getting too hot in the summer. Insulation is also a good way of making your home more energy efficient, as it prevents heat escaping and energy being wasted on heating your home. This can also save you money on energy and heating bills!

There are several places in the home which need insulation:

  • Walls
  • Roof
  • Floors
  • Central heating boilers
  • Hot water pipes

There are a wide variety of options available for each area. Choose from either glass mineral wool, rock mineral wool, rigid foam or sheep's wool. Do your research on the benefits of each type before you buy, and maybe consider consulting a professional to help you install them.

Insulating your house doesn't mean that you shouldn't still enjoy using your luxury heating products such as heated towel rails or heated floor tiles; it just means that you don't need to use them to stay warm. They remain a comforting luxury, to be enjoyed when you're home and cosy and its cold outside.
