Submitted by steven wolden* 15:49 Tue 9th June 2009* Reply (1) I need some advise if to order black limestone or black slate everybody tells me black limestone even sealed losses its colour and better to order black slate as it will retain the black colour better over time, so even though it is more expensive better to get the material that will hold the colour can you advise me on this matter please Hi Steven, both material are of the same quality, and will hold the colour the same providing that they are laid and sealed correctly. Obviously, it is recommended that any natural stone product is sealed every one or two years to prevent weathering. However, slate products are layered and therefore it is possible but highly rare that over time it could loose pieces off the surface and need re-treating.
