How to build a solid edge of garden paving around your pond

In the last article we looked at edging around your pond to create an attractive look. Now, we are going to explain how to build a solid edge around it. Paving slabs are undoubtedly the simplest form of hard edging you will find.

If your pond is situated in the middle of your patio, garden paving slabs would be the most obvious solution, but this will also work in gravelly and grassy gardens too. What you need to do is go to your favourite online retailers and get the right kinds of slabs for the job.

You should be able to find slabs that are slightly tapered so they fit nicely and snugly together around the curves of the pond. You can also use square ones, but you would need to fill in the gaps with cement.

One thing to mention, though, is the safety aspect. I know this is always being drummed into you by the politically correct brigade, but in this instance, it is imperative that you listen to us. The slabs should be firmly (and evenly) fixed and bedded down in cement or concrete. Otherwise, the outcome may be something akin to a Laurel and Hardy film with someone ending up in the pond. This is great if you have recorded it for ‘You’ve been Framed’, but not for the person trying their best to spit out all the fish from their mouth!
