How to create your very own wet room

You may think that wet rooms are only for those with lots of money or large houses with lots of space, but that's simply not true. If you plan carefully and set aside a realistic budget, you too can afford to have your very own wet room. Wet rooms are dedicated areas for bathing and showering, which allow you to create the feeling of a spa right in your very own home. However, to get it right, you need to be aware of a few basic factors.

• Your wet room needs to be watertight! Consult a professional at this stage, who will make sure the ‘tanking', which means fitting a waterproof membrane underneath the wall and floor tiles, is done properly.

• Drainage - You need to make sure waste water is drained away efficiently. Consider different or sloping floor levels, and install waste fittings. Most of all, make sure your floor tiles are non-slip!

• Condensation - Condensation can damage paint, and create damp and mould, so make sure you look into some sort of ventilation system. 

• Shower curtains and other sanitary fittings- These materials will be getting constantly wet, so make sure they are made of the right material and are hung correctly.

Now that you have the basics of a well-designed wet room, you can now have fun choosing some optional extras! Consider installing a power shower, built-in body jets, different floor levels, underfloor heating, colour schemes for porcelain tiles and mosaic ceramic wall tiles , or hidden storage. There's no end to what you can do!
