Painting a wall

Once you have prepared the wall properly by filling, sanding and masking it, you are now ready to start painting. However, you still need to know about the different types of paint, paintbrushes and rollers. With this knowledge, you should be able to paint all of your walls to a high standard, giving the room a beautiful and professional looking finish.

Types of paint – The type of paint you choose depends on what you are painting, but you should always opt for quality paint over budget brands. For general walls and ceilings, you could use a Vinyl Matt emulsion, but a Vinyl Silk emulsion may be best for kitchens and bathrooms as it is more hard wearing. This type of paint also has a slight glossy sheen to complement your ceramic wall tiles or porcelain floor tiles .

Paintbrushes and rollers – You need to choose high quality brushes with longer bristles to ensure a smooth, quality finish. Surprisingly, larger brushes will also provide you with a greater level of control.

When buying rollers, you don’t need to spend a lot of money in order to get good quality. A good one to choose is a 9 inch medium pile roller which coats walls and ceilings smoothly with a hint of texture. You also need to purchase a paint tray. Additionally, a roller pole can be a useful option for painting ceilings.
