As our lives become increasingly hectic, we're always looking for ways to make everything quicker for ourselves. Suddenly, the microwave is the best invention ever and we've taken to using the car to visit our neighbours, six doors down.
These time saving measures have even extended to the way in which we run our homes and now more and more people are deciding to get rid of their grass lawns and replace them with garden paving. Just think of the hours of mowing time you will save!
But although the garden paving will be saving your time for years to come, laying the paving itself is quite a challenge.
Firstly, you need to make sure that you are laying your garden paving on a firm and level base. You should remove the top soil from the area to a depth of 200mm. Mark out the area with pegs and adjust their heights to the required surface level. After excavation, rake the surface to an even depth and then compact the area. Lay your crushed stone then rake in sand and compact again. You then need to spread a layer of sharp sand across the sub base to a compacted depth of 35mm.
Now you are ready to lay your paving.
