Whether it is laying some new decking or creating a patio in the sun trap, the autumn is the perfect time to do it. You will be seeing your garden in its bare form during the winter, it might look dull and boring but this is the optimum time to make some changes.

By adding some funky paving, a raised border or even a pond can transform what was a drab boring space with a pathetic bit of grass. Make the most out of the areas which get the sun for most of the day and add some decking so that you can sit out on your new garden furniture late into the evenings next summer.

Choose stone paving which you know will last a good number of years and that aren't a fashion piece. Choose the colour of the paving carefully. Paving that is pale in colour always works well in a garden which is narrow as it fools the eye into thinking the garden in wider.
