1. DESCRIPTION
ARDEX C2 is suitable for grouting wall or floor tile joints from 2mm to 20mm wide. The ARDEX C2 powder, when mixed with water, produces a soft, creamy, easily worked mortar with good filling properties, enabling deep joints to be filled in one operation. The hardened grout is weather resistant, unaffected by water and is suitable for internal and external use in dry or wet conditions, including swimming pools with non-aggressive water conditions. The surface of the hardened grout has a textured finish and is not impervious. NOTE: That where chemical spillages or corrosive liquids are likely to be in contact with the tile joints, use ARDEX WA epoxide grout. In light duty areas ARDEX E 101 mortar admix may be incorporated in the ARDEX C2 to produce a mortar with elastic and water repellent properties. This is particularly useful when grouting tiles fixed to timber, see data sheet, or when tiling domestic floors and around swimming pools. N.B. For heavily trafficked areas, especially where the grout will be subjected to high point loads, ARDEX GK, or ideally ARDEX WA should be used in preference to ARDEX C2.2. PREPARATION
Ensure tiles are firmly fixed and joints are clean, free of dust, excess adhesive and bedding mortar, etc.3. MIX PROPORTIONS
The mixing proportions by volume are approximately:- 1 part water : 31/2 parts ARDEX C2 powder 11kg ARDEX C2 requires approximately 2.2 litres and 5kg ARDEX C2 requires approximately 1 litre of water.4. MIXING
To the required amount of clean water in a clean container add the powder whilst stirring thoroughly until a creamy, slump free, easily worked mortar is obtained. The mixed grout has a working time of 2 to 3 hours at 20°C. Higher temperatures shorten the working time.NOTE: Certain types of tile may be prone to surface discoloration or scratching when using this grout, e.g. some natural stone or absorbent, textured or soft glazed ceramic tiles. Consult BS 5385 : Part 1 : 1995 for further information or consult the tile manufacturer/distributor for advice. If in doubt carry out a trial application. Additional information on natural stone products may be found in our natural stone tiling guide.
5. APPLICATION
Using a rubber squeegee or rubber backed trowel work the mixed grout thoroughly into the joints ensuring they are completely filled. Excess grout should be removed as work proceeds and any residues left on the tile face can be removed by wiping off with a damp sponge between 15 minutes and 2 hours after application. Any dry film remaining on the tile surface can easily be removed by polishing off with a dry cloth when the grout has hardened in the joints. Apply at temperatures above 5°C.6. PACKAGING
ARDEX C2 is packed in paper sacks incorporating a polyethylene liner - net weight 11kg or 5kg.7. STORAGE AND SHELF LIFE
ARDEX C2 contains a reducing agent to control the level of Chromium VI when mixed prior to use. ARDEX C2 must be stored in unopened packaging, clear of the ground in cool dry conditions and protected from excessive draught. If stored correctly, as detailed above, and used within 12 months of the date shown on the packaging, the activity of the reducing agent (added to control the level of soluble Chromium VI) will be maintained and this product will contain, when mixed with water, no more than 0.0002% (2ppm) soluble Chromium VI of the total dry weight of the cement content of this product. ARDEX C2 must not be used after the end of the declared storage period.8. PRECAUTIONS
ARDEX C2 contains more than 20% Portland cement and is therefore classified as irritating to eyes and skin. For this reason the following precautions should be observed:- Avoid contact with skin and eyes; in case of contact with the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice; wear suitable gloves and keep the product out of the reach of children. Avoid generation of airborne dust during mixing. For further information, consult the relevant health and safety data sheet.9. TECHNICAL DATA

10. COVERAGE
This will depend upon the tile size, joint width and depth and the Grout Coverage Figure, which for ARDEX C2 is 1.7. Use the following to estimate the approximate grout requirements for square or rectangular tiles:- Stage (all measurements in mm).
1. ADD length and breadth of tile together.
2. MULTIPLY result by joint width.
3. MULTIPLY result by joint depth.
4. MULTIPLY result by Coverage Figure
(i.e. for C 2, 1.7).
5. DIVIDE result by length of tile.
6. DIVIDE result by breadth of tile.
The result is the material requirement in kg per sq. metre.
Material required is:- (length + breadth) x width x depth x 1.7 = kg/m2
length x breadth
Example
Tiles 240mm x 115mm x 10mm; joints of 10mm:- (240 + 115) x 10 x 10 x 1.7 = 2.2kg/m2
240 x 115 - thus one 11kg bag of ARDEX C 2 will grout up to 5m2 of tiling. These figures will differ when using other tile/joint dimensions:- Joint Width Tile size Approximate Amount of ARDEX C 2 Powder
- 8mm 300 x 300 x 10mm 1.0 kg/m2
- 10mm 200 x 100 x 8mm 2.0 kg/m2
- 5mm 200 x 200 x 6mm 0.5 kg/m2
- 5mm 150 x 150 x 5mm 0.6 kg/m2
- 2mm 108 x 108 x 4mm 0.25kg/m2
- 2mm 50 x 50 x 4mm 0.6 kg/m2
